Every individual has the potential to learn and master up to five magical abilities. This flexibility allows magic users to personalize their skillset, uncovering abilities that align with their passions, talents and goals. However, mastering these abilities requires dedication and careful management of energy, as overexertion can lead to disastrous consequences.
While magic is a source of wonder and empowerment, it also comes with risks. A rare but devastating condition known as channeling inability occurs when a person's body is incapable of handling the process of channeling energy into magical abilities. Syncing is not limited to combining different abilities. When individuals of the same species sync, they can amplify their unique abilities to extraordinary levels. For example, Spring and Fred, both Lights, can unite their magic to produce a beam of light far brighter and more powerful than they could achieve alone. This amplification showcases the versatility of syncing, making it an invaluable skill for both combat and creation.
Despite its benefits, syncing carries significant risks. During the process, participants tie their souls together or in rarer cases, their cores. This connection creates a powerful bond but also leaves them vulnerable. If the sync is interrupted abruptly, the backlash can cause searing pain deep within the chest, a lingering ache that serves as a reminder of the failed connection. Additionally, while syncing in combat, participants must maintain holding hands, limiting their mobility and forcing them to fight with only one hand each. These vulnerabilities make syncing as dangerous as it is powerful.
Spring's badge
Badges
Badges mark the pivotal moment when an individual successfully channels their magic for the first time. Upon manifesting, a badge appears in the distinct color of the person’s magic and assumes a shape that reflects their essence. This shape might represent a passion, a core personality trait or even a hint at their destiny. The true meaning of a badge is often debated, leaving room for endless theories and interpretations.
Most individuals proudly display their badges, wearing them as a testament to their magical identity. Others take a creative approach by embedding their badges into personal objects, such as rings, necklaces or watches, transforming them into cherished, functional artifacts. For instance, John houses his badge within a ring, while Traike has embedded his in a watch, showcasing the versatility and personalization of this magical emblem.
However, those who do not wear badges typically fall into one of two categories: symbol users, whose magic is embedded into their symbol, therefore they won’t have a physical badge or individuals who have yet to unlock their magical potential.
Symbols
Symbols (distinct from birthmarks) represent a rarer and more potent form of badges. While badges are typically affixed externally, symbols are embedded into the skin itself, forming a permanent mark. Like badges, the process of obtaining a symbol remains shrouded in mystery, with numerous theories surrounding its true significance. However, one fact remains indisputable: those who bear symbols wield magic of a far greater caliber than badge users.
Individuals with symbols exhibit remarkable resilience, both physically and magically. They experience minimal fatigue, and their ability to master and push the limits of their magical powers is unparalleled. When channeling magic, the symbol itself, much like the person's eyes, glows a visual testament to their immense power.
In rare cases, however, the symbol manifests in a more dangerous way, burning itself into the skin and leaving a wound that never heals. This phenomenon is so extreme that few have survived the toll it takes. Claide is the only known individual to have suffered this fate, a rare and haunting outcome for those who seek to exceed their limits, many of whom meet an untimely end at the hands of RON.
Claide's symbol
Items
Items are usually weapons a magic user can summon whenever they please, some like to always keep their item on their person while others like to store it away. Depending on what the item is, the wielder will use it accordingly.
Despite weapons being common, there are various other items a person can have connected to their being, this always being limited to a single item per person. Some like to holster their item while others like spending the energy on summoning it at will.
In some instances, an item's appearance will change alone with its owner, if it's their appearance or their personality, it'll always adapt to its owner's liking.
Talisman
Familiars, sometimes referred to as Talisman, are living entities akin to magical artifacts but instead of being inanimate objects like swords or shields, they take the form of living beings most often animals. Each familiar is unique, possessing its own consciousness, personality and set of magical abilities. Despite their independence, familiars are unwaveringly loyal to their owners, forming a deep bond that transcends the ordinary relationship between mage and magic.
Familiars are not merely companions, they are immensely powerful, enhancing their wielder's magical potential with their unique properties. This combination of loyalty, intelligence, and magical prowess makes both familiars and their owners forces to be reckoned with.
